Post New Girl... Help! Products, routine!

Hi Girls! I'm new here on NaturallyCurly and am giving a shot at CG for the first time, so please bear with me. I've been at it for about two weeks or so, but have my doubts. First of all, my all time favorite hair product and the one I couldn't bear to live without has silicone in it! Cyclomethicone to be exact. The product is CurlsRock from Tigi and I absolutely love it. I read in this article that this specific silicone can be washed out with conditioner. So that means I can still use it, wash with any conditioner and won't get buildup?

Another thing is that my scalp sweats a lot causing an unpleasant smell after about two days, which means I have to constantly wash my hair. I've noticed conditioners don't help much with that. Is there any specific conditioner I can use to wash that will really clean my scalp? I want my hair to be beautiful but I want it to smell good too! Once I start working out it will be close to impossible not to wash my hair every other day. Any help will be greatly appreciated

A good low-poo will help with both of those problems. A low-poo is a shampoo without sulfates/silicones, basically. Just look for one that contains coco-betaine. A good, gentle low-poo that I would recommend is Renpure Organics, red bottle. This will remove any possible product buildup from your styling product, and help clean your scalp from sweat/nasties. You may only need to low-poo once a week, but might be something to look into.

Hiya yetza_pelua,

How are you? I am a no-poo CG. Do you know what hair type you are (Type 2-4?)? Knowing which hair type I am helped me figure out which method was best for me: No poo or low poo. I am type 3c, btw.

Cyclo-cones evaporate off of the hair during the drying process, so yes, you can stick to co-washing. (because of the evaporation process, some people might notice a bit of dryness, but thats never been an issue for me). As far as frequency for cleansing, it's completely a personal choice. I cleanse my hair daily, sometimes with conditioner, sometimes with low-poo (and even the occasional gentle sulfate shampoo). I do martial arts training 4-5 days a week for 2-4 hours, so I prefer to cleanse daily. There's no right or wrong- it's all about figuring out what works for your hair. And while there's lots of focus on curl pattern around here, it's really your hair properties (texture, porosity, etc) that will determine the types of products and ingredients that will work best for your hair.
