Question Texturizers

TEXTURIZERS!! Ahhhh! I'm having so much trouble understanding how it works. I have nappy golden(dyed a year ago) hair. When it's straight, it is about shoulder length. When I see texturizers, it is always pictures of men with short hair.
Are texturizers for short hair?
Can I use them?
Any tips and advice?
I'd like to do it at home being that I feel as though I'd have more control over it than at a hairdresser. Is that alright?
Soo many questions. I need all the help I can get

They can be used on longer hair. It's just like a home relaxer. Just basically follow the directions. I don't have a texturizer, but I'm sure it works for long hair also.
