Ts & Ps needed for FIL -- (update: MIL is gone, FIL in ER)
My MIL has been in and out of the hospital and emergency since before Thanksgiving. Now she's back in the hospital for the last few weeks, and is not doing well.
It started with an operation to remove a kidney. She had too many stones, it didn't look good, and they said it had a mass. (We still never heard if it was benign or not)
She is also diabetic. She ended up getting an infection and went back to the hospital. She has pneumonia, it's so bad they were doing a procedure to drain her lungs. She isn't eating, they tried a feeding tube but it didn't stay down. She's so zonked out on morphine that she's mostly sleeping so she doesn't eat, talk, etc. They're going to wean her off the morphine and see if she perks up.
We were planning to go see her this weekend, just in case. But now my teen son just came down with the chicken pox! Poor guy is a mess. He had the vaccine and booster, but it didn't help I guess. They say it should be a milder case, we'll see....
So I'm a nervous wreck. Please keep MIL in your thoughts and prayers, etc. Thank you.

Of course, Curlilocks. You've got it! Your poor MIL sounds like she has an awful lot to cope with.
I'm wondering if they can implant a feeding tube in her stomach rather than down her throat? I had one and it worked out very well until I could eat on my own.
Very sorry to hear all this mess going on in your life including the chicken pox. {{{Curlilocks}}}. I hope things improve soon.

Of course, for all if you.
I hope you are able to find a way to see MIL, and that your son's chicken pox us a mild case and very short experience.

Oh goodness, I'm so very sorry CL. I'll be keeping her in my thoughts that she's able to get better.
I'll also be keeping your, your husband, and son in my thoughts as well.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

We just spoke with FIL and there really is no good news right now. They did the procedure to clear fluid from her lungs, they also are using needles from the outside to get the fluids from outside her lungs. She was on a respirator for a while (after procedures?) but is breathing on her own again.
The feeding tubes weren't working. They measured the amount going in, took it out hours later, and there wasn't a difference. I guess she's not digesting. Not a good sign. They're going back to IV nourishment.
The tumor was benign, but it was growing rapidly and could have turned cancerous. But that's all out now and should be fine.
Our concern now is getting her to eat, clearing her lungs, and getting her healthy again.
I'm really afraid that we won't get to see her again. I would love to go right now but I have to take care of my son. Hubby may go up on his own at the beginning of next week. I hope we get to see her again. I hope she gets better. I lost my own mother tragically over 20 years ago. This is the only mom I have left. Although she can be difficult, I love my MIL and we really do get along well, have much in common. I'm scared.

I'm keeping you in my thoughts, Curlilocks and hoping everything improves for your MIL. I know you feel badly about not being able to be there with her. I'm very sorry you are going through this misfortune.
Please do continue to post. It's awful to be scared for someone you love who is so ill.

UPDATE!!!
She woke up and talked!
She called my FIL at home and asked him where he was and how soon he'd be there to visit her. She doesn't know where she's been and all that, but she's talking and coughing (good sign! get the phlegm out and clear that pneumonia).
FIL will call us after he visits for more info, but I just wanted to let you all know the good news! Let's pray she continues to improve. Thank you for your continued good wishes.
