Grapseed oil *yuuck*
This week i decided to buy a bottle of grape seed oil since so many curlies were having good results using it. So I've been looking forward to washing my hair today and finally try the grapeseed oil out. I decided to use it as a seal-in.
After trying it out....
I have to say that i am deeply disappointed! My hair smells awful and i'm having a hard time convincing myself to not go wash it out immediately...
Next week i'll try it as a pre-poo and i hope that it will work better than it has today....
How do you use grapeseed oil? Pre-poo or seal-in?
Edit: My boyfriend came home from work and said my hair reeks of fresh cement/cast

It made my hair as dry as straw! Didn't work for my hair.

Do you know your hair properties? That is very important in saving you a lot of time with trying different things.
I suspect either you have grapeseed oil that is not pure grapeseed or you simply have a rancid bottle.
Grapeseed oil has protein in it, juanab, that's possibly why it didn't work well for you.

Not sure about my hair properties, but I think I have low/normal porosity hair, 3b/3c, natural hair only - there was something else I should know about my hair... right?
Well I took a look at the bottle and it only says 100% grapeseed oil. filled 05/2011 and expires 05/2014 ...which just cant be right, since i read in several websites that it can be stored only for 15 months!
I wrote the company where i bought it an email asking for the ingredients list and further information.
The oil is deep dark green, and it tastes (my DH's idea) like plastic. Its really disgusting! Im going to the supermarket tomorrow and am gonna purchase a bottle from another brand so i can compare.
Im really pissed and disappointed at the same time. Hope that at least the castor oil I bought from the same company turns out to really be castor oil!!!

Dark Green?? I got my grapeseed oil from Trader Joes and it's like that same yellowish/brownish color that Olive oil is. I like it. No real smell. I only use a little bit and I mix it into my shea butter as a winter sealant.

My grapeseed oil was a yellow/clearish color. It didn't really have a smell and it was pure. I hated it because it makes my hair greasy, but dry feeling and not soft. I had bought two bottles because I was so excited when I found it. Anyway, one bottle spoiled and the other I never opened. I'm sure it's spoiled as well. Oh well...

That has to be it. I don't need much protein at all and I was sealing with it! Thanks for the info.

Ita with other posters. It doesn't usually have a smell and it's usually clear. I like it for both hair and skin. It's a light oil. My hair is med-coarse and low porosity.

Here's the picture i took to compare the colour of the oils.
Left:Grapeseed oil
Right: EVOO
I noiced that the grapeseed oil has little particles of something in it, bit i couldn't capture it with the camera.
Oh, and customer service sent me an answer today! She said that the oil has this strong smell because it is made of organic grapes only...WTH? So organic grapes are supposed to stink/taste like plastic and be as green as Hulk?
I told her to go and take a sniff at one of her grapeseed oil bottles, and that if she then is still convinced that this is exactly how an oil is supposed to be that i won't complain anymore....
This was at 10am (now it is 2:20pm where i live)
She hasn't replied anymore...

Yeah.... Something's very wrong their. You should have sent her that picture.
I'd say give GSO another try - with a different brand!!

Got another mail, they say it's unrefined, that's why it stinks... Im still not convinced!!!
Jas: I did send her the picture, and she said this is the colour it is supposed to have since it hasn't been refined....
Anyway this one is going to the trash immediately - and i hope that another brand does a better job.
Thank you all for your support

After this thread i took a closer comparison look and my Trader Joes GSO is actually lighter color than my EVoo. It says 100 percent GSO. I don't smell a thing.

I buy mine unrefined and it's clear to almost clear in color, lightweight, and odorless. There shouldn't be any particles in it.

I think it was rancid. You might take it back to the store and ask for a refund.

Just a heads up...some unrefined oils do smell. I buy all mine unrefined and the argan oil smells HORRRIBLE. To me at least. My husband says it just smells medicinal. The place where I get them online has a disclaimer about this and suggests buying the refined if you want no smell. I like the idea of the natural nutrients so I just put up with it, but I can't put the argan on my hair, just on my skin at bedtime! The other unrefined oils I get are typically dark green, but none smell as pungent as the argan. Just want to confirm that what the vendor is saying about organic/ unrefined is, in fact, true although I don't think mine has many particles. I do shake before I apply and they're always smooth.
