Wavy...curly?
If my hair gets less curly the shorter it gets...does that mean its actually wavy?
I mean shorter layers I have on top don't even curl. They're just ribbly....that's what I called it when I was younger...but I guess they're deep waves. When I had it real short years ago....like color bone...I could comb it out of the shower and it had loads of body...but no ringlets to see.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

Maybe some areas are wavy and some are curly, the hair on your head doesn't always grow the same in all areas.
My curls are a bit looser in some areas and tighter in others.

For me, my hair gets wurlier as it grows. Cut short, it just looks straight with a slight bend or flipping at the ends. My hair needs length for my curls to show.

Yeah....that's like how mine is. And I always wondered when I saw baby pics of myself (hair was shorter) and I just had these really shiny lazy loops that could easily be combed out straight. Just tons of body. So maybe all along I should have gone shorter rather than longer. I just thought maybe damage and mistreatment made my hair so different. So I have just been insanely good to my hair over the years thinking I may get it back. I think I may have to lee it abt shoulder length or shorter from now on. It really helps with drying and styling time.

I have a similar "problem" with my hair. In fact, I've kept it short most my adult life to try and not have to worry about it. I Canmore easily straighten it the shorter it is.
I have large S curls with smaller ringlet (think shirly temple) on the lowest nape of my neck. The other hair actually gets curlier the longer it is because the curl has more room to develop. As it gets longer, the hair has a chance to move how it wants. KWIM? I'm a 2c---3a.

I guess I'm some variation of all the 2's with a little 3 thrown in for good measure.

i looked at your fotki, and i wouldn't call your hair 2 anything. 3a minimum! I'm jealous of your volume. I hate my hair longer because it gets so flat in the back.

I think it's pretty long in this pics right? And volume, I so wish I could get some around my face....man that part is fine and lays flat...longer than my jaw and that part gets stringy. I have to fluff upside down and put my fingers under it just to make it look not plastered to my head.

I looked at your fotki pics and agree with elizard - from what I can see in your pics, I think your hair is 3a. Looks like you may have some 2c as well as some 3b mixed in too. It's not uncommon for 3a hair to be looser/straighter when its short and curl up more with length. Mine is the same way - it needs a little bit of length to really see the complete curl pattern. I've also noticed that once it gets past a certain length, the weight of my hair tends to pull on the curl and I lose volume. There seems to be this midway length between the two where I get maximum curl and volume. For me, this is around APL. If I go shorter than that (anything above my shoulders), it looks more wavy and less curly. Now that I'm working on getting past BSL, I'm getting less volume. Layers have definitly helped offset the lack of volume - and it gives a nice shape (no triangle head).

Ok....that helps. I think maybe shoulder length when dry may be a good length for me. When I had it waist length...it seemed to drag my face down when I look at pics. It's lighter and swingier when shorter...but also not as curly. Like I need more hold...too much wind will actually mess it up...I gotta coax it more.
