Do any of you 3a's do conditioner only styling?
Have any of you done conditioner only styling of your hair? What is your method? What do you do on 2nd day?
I saw an interesting video on conditioner only method. It was supposed to be on 3a but I'm not sure - her hair might be 3b or have a stronger curl pattern than I do.
I'm intrigued by this. It wasn't only that the hair was styled using conditioner only - the strands were separated in a particular way. Anyway, I thought I'd ask you 3A people to see if any of you have tried this!

Do you have the link to the vid?
I have done conditioner only before with success. I've been experimenting with products lately so I haven't done it in a while. I haven't tried it in the winter though. If I remember correctly, for second day hair I would spritz my hair with water and scrunch in some conditioner and this worked for me.
I just got my jug of Kenra conditioner in so I will try it with this conditioner. The one that worked before was tressemme naturals.
I'll tell you I was floored that conditioner only even worked for me and it wasnt fussy...and my hair looked great.

Condition Only on type 3 hair - YouTube
Hi Curlswirl,
I hope this link works. I'm never sure I'm doing a link the right way. It's on youtube if you search for "condition only on type 3A hair."
I was going to try it today but I was too lazy. So I did the super soaker method using CCCL & Curls in a Bottle. Have to see how it turns out! Everything is so different in winter for my hair and I guess for many curlies.
There's also a great video on doing crimped curls without using heat except for a diffuser. If this link works, and you're interested, let me know and I'll send you that one also. I also love WaterLily's videos.
Anyway, hope all is going really well for you.

I do conditioner only styling. My hair seems to live by the saying,"less is more!" when it comes to styling products other than conditioner. I wash and condition my hair daily so I don't know about second day hair. I imagine spritizing and rescrunching would be all that you would need to do.

I can't quite do conditioner only styling (curls become too undefined). What has worked well for me is using conditioner as my main styler but then scrunching in a little bit of a light hold gel-like products (Curl Keeper and Matrix Super Defrizzer both worked very well for this). As far as minimal product/maximum results, I've been playing around with the Deva 3-step again (using the new Ultra Defining Gel) and the results have been amazing. I used Deva for a couple years before I found NC.com and stopped using after reading all the mixed reviews. Decided to re-visit a few months ago and I'm really glad that I did.

Nope I can't, my hair will get too poofy and frizzy. I have to follow up with a gel or something. Sometimes I'll use a conditioner when I only want to put my hair in a ponytail, but not for wearing it down.

I don't need gel, or a strong hold product, but I do need more than just conditioner. I like a moisturizing curl creme, with soft hold. But I definitely don't spend a ton of time on my styling routine, I just rake/comb in some leave in, then some curl creme, and go!

I just started using mainly conditioner to style, and WOW-my hair is so defined! I have a very weak curly pattern, I am only 2c/3a with some 3b, but I use the GVP CB as a conditioner and I comb it through wet hair with my fingers, then scrunch it in. Then I use a small amount of gel like BRHG or Ecostyler Krystal because my canopy gets fuzzy. I have fine hair that doesn't like to clump, but using a lottttt of conditioner apparently makes it clump like crazy-I'm very happy with this low matinence routine!

Interesting video - I haven't tried conditioner only in a while, but I might revisit this. It looks like the method in the video results in nicely defined curls, and possibly helps enhance curl pattern, but it doesn't look like it would promote clumps as she was purposefully separating the hair into very small sections. Looks a little too time consuming to me to do that part, but I think all that conditioner is a great idea in the winter to help moisturize and protect the hair.
ETA: wavyshibby could you be another hair twin? Every time I see your posts I think "man, that sounds like me."

Jsuzkelly-really? Maybe so! I have fine but medium thick 2c/3a hair, (with a little 3b thrown in there, just to keep it interesting)
I always see your posts and think "wow our hair is similar"-if only I could get mine as shiny and frizz free as yours though!

I did CO only yesterday with tresseme naturals (the only conditioner so far that works) and added a little Argan oil (pure) to my ends to seal. My hair turned out so nice and I even diffused about halfway. This is the only conditioner so far that works for is method, which is fine with me. I actually went today to stock up and they had a few bottles with pumps that I grabbed, yay!! My second day hair was great too. I will definitely be doing this often.

I've been doing this with Tresemme Naturals. Only the smoothing formula works for me -I can use the moisturizing as a RO but not ad a LI. I am sealing with a little avocado oil. I keep wondering if this will work for me in the summer, but for now it is working great and I am happy.

I do 😊 I just use gvp conditioning balm as a leave-in/styler after co washing. I used to use tresseme naturals conditioner but something in it made my hair crunchy 😒
I just wet my hair in the shower, co-wash with a clarifying conditioner, rinse it out, apply a more moisturizing conditioner as a leave in, detangle with my fingers, cup my hands with cold water and splash the top of my head, scrunch, and then air dry. I hate a crunchy feeling and product usually gives me that...so i prefer going without.
On the days that i don't wash my hair and if my curls need refreshing...I just wet my hair with a spray bottle and scrunch in the same gvp conditioner 😊

I am really loving my routine and my curls are very happy! 💜

I do it sometimes. I call it my "lazy wash and go" >.> It takes me like 2 seconds to comb out my hair and slap some conditioner on it. However, my hair is not as defined as when I use gel, but I can rock the volume and frizz
For second/third/fourth day hair, before I go to bed, I just wet my palms and put conditioner into my palms and just smooth it onto my hair. I let it dry and then pineapple my hair, and then re-wet (but w/ no conditioner) some awkward parts in the morning.
I guess the reason why my hair is not suuuper defined is because I don't use super-moisturizing, silicone-y conditioners like Hello Hydration or Aussie Moist. I don't like silicones in my styling products. I have enough issues with build-up as it is. I just use KCKT by itself or a cheapie by Suave. They're light conditioners, but provide a nice amount of moisture for me.

Everyone, thanks for your input! I have decided it doesn't work for me. Back to the drawing board - especially with those high dewpoints coming. Eeek!

curlypearl, i see your hair is high porosity -- do you seal after your leave in? i cannot use oils, but i found this year that sealing with either jane carter nourish & shine or spiral solutions emollience has made a HUGE difference. give it a try.

rbb - thanks so much! I will try that. I like JC Nourish & Shine.
Right now I have given up (sob) trying to wear my hair curly because in winter the wind blows all the curls out and on top of that I don't have time to re-wet it every morning and dry it in time to go to work, so I just do a roller set and it lasts for days.
However.... as soon as the high dews set in - I will go back to curly and hope my curls recover. I'll try your method with the JC N&S and report back.
Nice to see you on the boards! and Hi to everyone who responded
